Balconies withhold a strong historical element and are often considered a luxurious trait for a home to have. Think Romeo and Juliet… How picturesque would it be to have a balcony just like the one Juliet did in her mansion? Should you add a balcony to your home? Or should you scratch the idea all together? 

TO HAVE…?

Owning a balcony in your home brings forth a number of benefits. Balconies are the ideal touch of sophistication in a home. Adding character, style and providing access to beautiful views of your surrounding areas. Having a balcony in your home can also increase the value of your home if and when you decide to sell, as they are believed to acquire aesthetic value. You’ll also notice by having a balcony, the size of your home will appear significantly larger and provide an additional area to entertain guests.  Balconies also provide a great source of natural lighting to brighten your entire home.

OR NOT TO HAVE…?

On the other hand, having a balcony in your home can also have its downfalls. The presence of a balcony can pose many safety hazards, especially if you have young children who can easily gain access to it. You may want to consider installing a child safety lock to the door, to prevent any risks and take extra caution when entertaining guests outside. If you are building a home and considering having a balcony built, think about the extra costs you will be faced with. Are you situated within a position where a balcony will be worthwhile? Are the views worth it?
