WOOD VS STONE

October 4, 2019

Traditionally when building a home, there are two main building materials most decide to construct their home with. These are wood and stone. We’ve provided the pros and cons of each to help you decide the most suitable material to build your home with.

WOOD PROS

Wood is known as the cheaper and more accessible material to build a home with. As wood is lightweight this means transportation is way more convenient and easier to build with due to its flexibility. In the colder seasons wood is able to keep your house warm and vice versa for the hotter periods.

STONE PROS

Stone homes require much less upkeep and tend to be more durable, whilst remaining termite resistant and fireproof. Stone is one of the strongest materials to construct your home with and the most versatile, offering a vast range of colours, styles and textures.

WOOD CONS

A large downside that follows with using wood to construct your home is the amount of maintenance it requires.  Wood needs to be regularly painted and chemically treated. Wood homes also fall to the risk of termite and water damage. While wood may be cheaper to first install, the potential risks could see you outlaying more money in the long run.

STONE CONS

Stone is much more expensive to build your home with as opposed to wood. Stone also requires a higher level of skill to install by more specialized tradesmen. Due to the weight of the material, stone homes often take more time to construct, requiring more machinery and special care.

When you weigh out the pros and cons of each material, there is no simple answer as to which is more suitable to build a home. All in all, deciding whether to build with wood or stone is really dependent on your own personal preference.
